Seawater desalination is an effective way to tackle water stress in arid coastal regions. As known to all, electro-dialysis (ED) technology is commercially proven to be one of the promising membrane-based desalination processes to produce fresh water for drinking, irrigation, or industrial use. Electrodialysis utilizes electric potential to move the salts ions through pairs of charged selective membranes, which trap salt in alternating channels. Thus, the saline feedwater can be separated into two streams: a fresh water stream containing a low concentration of dissolved salts and a concentrated brine stream. In essence, electrode material, which is resistant to oxidation and reduction, is one of the key components in this ED stack cell of electro-dialysis desalinator. Owing to its exceptional capability of water treatment and long working life, YUXI’s ruthenium-iridium oxide coated titanium mesh has been widely used as both an anode and a cathode in desalination plant.

Using state-of-the-art technology, the titanium base is taken to a high temperature ( ≥1200 °C) in a vacuum sintering furnace ensuring total adhesion of the coating. Thus, the coating consumption rate is extremely low and uniform, measured in milligrams per ampere-year.
