Spark Gap
The isolating spark gap (ISG), also known as spark gap arrester is intend to provide galvanic isolation between electrical installation parts where direct connections are not permitted. The galvanic isolation not only prevents electrochemical corrosion, but also provides a connection capable of carrying lightning current. With silicone enclosure encapsulated by high strength glass cloth cylinder and epoxy resin, our EX-certified spark gap is an extremely heavy-duty device constructed for low temperatures, corrosion resistance, weathering and UV. It is ideally used for above-ground and under-ground installation situated in hazardous zones.
Description
—— Practical Application ——
- For Protection of Insulating Joints and Flanges
Monolithic joints and galvanic insulated flanges are used to electrically isolate pipeline systems or to divide high-voltage-interference on pipelines into sections. Cathodically protected systems are electrically isolated until the dielectric strength of the insulating joint is breached. Surges caused by a lightning strike, into exposed parts of a pipeline system, may lead to the dielectric strength of insulating joints being exceeded. As a result, hazardous sparking may occur or the insulation joint may be damaged. In the petrochemical and gas Industry, our isolating spark gap is highly suitable for bridging insulating flanges or couplings in pipe sections with cathodic corrosion protection. It offers an effective solution for the avoidance of arcing on sensitive insulating pieces, which in turn to ensures smooth operation of the metallic pipeline. - For Lightning Equipotential Bonding
Any company manufacturing, processing or storing combustible substances must expect the risk of explosions. Potentially explosive areas are all those rooms and areas in which gases, vapours, mists or dusts, which can form potentially explosive mixtures with air, can collect to a hazardous level that endanger people and the equipment. This isolating spark gap can be used to discharge the overvoltage and arrest lightning energy without sparking, even when a dangerous potentially explosive atmosphere occurs. Regarded as an anti-blast lightning arrester, it has been developed for safer lightning impulse protection in case of temporary and transient overvoltage. - For Separated Earthing or Grounding
When inadmissible high potential differences occur and the voltage increases in the earth connections, the spark gap will break down during an abnormal voltage surge, safely shunting the surge to ground and thereby protecting the equipment. Our isolating spark gap is one of the imperative device to maintain the balance of voltage level, thus grant the conductive connection with surge protection.
