Corrosion Test Coupon
Our test coupon is a metal specimen made of carbon steel (grade 20), which is the similar material as the metallic pipeline structure under cathodic protection inspection. It is commonly buried in the electrolyte adjacent to the protected structure to be tested and connected to it through a test station. This allows the coupon to be connected to the structure’s CP system and to be polarized in a similar manner as the structure. Thus, the test coupon effectively gives a visual indication of cathodic protection levels —— a proven way to determine the polarization level of a structure and to determine the IR drop error that is always associated with structure to soil potential measurement.
